Korean Beef Rice Bowl

Korean Beef Rice Bowl

Ground beef is very versatile and nutritious, as well as being easy to cook. However, the smell is quite strong if you do not brown it or add enough spices. At first I made this meal with just ground beef, garlic, and soy sauce, but the smell was too strong to handle. Therefore, I decided to add sesame oil to mask the scent. A few iterations later and this recipe was made, a perfect combination of savory, sweet, and spicy.

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice in a rice cooker.

  2. Finely dice ¼ of the onion.

  3. Slice the remaining ¼ of the onion into thin strips.

  4. Dice the spring onion, keeping the green tops separate for garnish.

  5. Make the sauce by mixing the soy sauce, finely diced onion, honey, black pepper, chili flakes, sesame oil, and water in a bowl. Stir well.

  6. Heat a pan on high heat.

  7. Add a dash of cooking oil and coat the pan.

  8. Add the ground beef to the pan and spread it out thinly and evenly.

  9. Leave the beef alone until the bottom becomes brown and crispy.

  10. Use a spatula to break up and mix the beef.

  11. Once the beef is fully cooked and the bottom of the pan is browned, pour in the sauce mixture.

  12. Stir until the beef is fully coated and the sauce reduces slightly.

  13. Plate the rice, add the beef on top, and finish with the sliced spring onion greens.

  14. Serve and enjoy.
